Historic Walt Disney Studio Auctions by Saturday's Toys presents...
a vintage photograph and press caption featuring Disney's Academy Award winning child star Bobby Driscoll (1937 - 1968)
The 7" x 9" photo was used when the "So Dear to My Heart" premiered in Chicago, Illinois on November 29, 1948. Released nationwide on January 19, 1949.
The film was among Walt Disney's favorites... as it reminded him of his own upbringing in the heartland of America.
Photo includes the original news attachment detailing the film's cast and describing the young actor and his first film, "Lost Angel" (1943) with screen legend Margaret O'Brien. Driscoll would go on to star in Walt Disney's "Song of the South." Amazing... that this classic story is now banned from viewing... not just for children... but for viewers of any age.
Disney photo archive #: "HD pub 390" noted in lower right corner. The original title of the Sterling North book was "Midnight and Jeremiah" (1943)... as eventually changed to "So Dear to My Heart" for the final release.
No watermark noted on reverse of photograph.

Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
